Camera Obscura

( Highly Recommended )

When the camera obscura was invented in the 19th century it must have seemed magical to be able to view the moving scene outside from within a darkened building. The device uses mirrors to project images of the outside world on to lenses and thus to a white disk. The lenses rotate through 360°, giving you a bird's-eye view of the surroundings. It's a fair climb up to Edinburgh's Camera Obscura, but you can pause at the hologram exhibition to get your breath. Choose a clear day for your visit; the camera depends on natural light and you won't see much if it's gloomy.
